Polka-palooza wedding!

When I first met Renee and Ken I knew I had my work cut out for me. They had a lot of great ideas for things to incorporate in their wedding ceremony and no idea how to organize them all into a cohesive ceremony that would be respectful and emotional while still being fun and unique. Thank goodness I love a challenge!

They knew they wanted the ceremony to reflect their Catholic background and bring their spiritual beliefs to the forefront, one of the ways they wanted to do this was with the polka version of The Lord’s Prayer played by Renee’s sister on her accordion. Apparently, their father had been in a polka band for many years and this was one of their standards. Though her father had passed, Renee knew that her siblings would very much appreciate hearing the hymn used as a part of the service.

I really, really wish I had a video of this ceremony as it was so much fun and so full of life and love on so many levels!

Between the scripture readings and the reading from Winnie the Pooh, the polka, sing-along prayers and the vocal solo accompanying the bride down the aisle, the spontaneous laughter, tears and cheers and the enthusiastic waving of dozens of “celebration sticks” adorned with ribbons and bells, the ceremony was an absolute joy to be a part of!

In the end, Renee and Ken, their family and friends were thrilled with the one-of-a-kind ceremony that we crafted together out of some random ideas and a general sense of wanting something both elegant and fun. The folks at the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel in Grand Ledge were incredible, as usual, and made the experience a joy for everyone involved.

Join me in wishing Ken and Renee a glorious marriage that’s as full of life and laughter and love as their wedding ceremony was!
